In 2020, Gordon Ramsay earned an estimated $70 million and was ranked No. 19 on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list of the world’s highest paid celebrities. He was the only chef included in that year’s ranking. Forbes attributed the earnings primarily to Ramsay’s global television presence and international restaurant portfolio. His programs on the Fox network, including Hell’s Kitchen and MasterChef, were reported to generate more than $150 million annually in advertising revenue for the broadcaster, reflecting the commercial scale of his television brand. Ramsay’s 2020 income was also supported by a major expansion agreement with private equity firm Lion Capital. The deal pledged $100 million to open 100 Gordon Ramsay branded restaurants across the United States over a five year period. At the time of the report, Ramsay oversaw approximately 35 restaurants worldwide, spanning fine dining, casual concepts, and licensed locations. The combination of television production, licensing, and restaurant expansion contributed to his placement among the highest earning entertainers globally. Despite the strong earnings, the 2020 pandemic created financial pressure for the hospitality group. Ramsay reported calculating close to $80 million in COVID related losses across his restaurant operations. The downturn also led to workforce reductions, with approximately 300 staff affected during the 2020 to 2021 financial period as venues temporarily closed or operated with restrictions.
