George S. Patton's early military career began with his posting to the 15th Cavalry at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Here, he quickly established himself as a diligent leader, impressing his superiors with his unwavering dedication and commitment to duty. His performance at Fort Sheridan laid a strong foundation for his future military endeavors. In late 1911, Patton was transferred to Fort Myer, Virginia, a strategic location where many of the Army's senior leaders were stationed. This move proved pivotal in his career as he befriended influential figures, including Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson. Serving as Stimson's aide at various social functions, Patton not only fulfilled his regular duties as a quartermaster for his troop but also expanded his network within the military hierarchy. Despite his high-pitched voice, which he feared would hinder his ability to inspire his troops, Patton's charisma and leadership qualities shone through, setting the stage for his future successes in the U.S. Army.
