Charles III Life Overview and Legacy

Charles III, known as "the Simple," was a monarch who reigned during a tumultuous period in the history of France. He was the posthumous son of Louis II and was proclaimed king in opposition to Odo. His reign lasted for over 24 years, from early January 898 until his deposition in 922. Charles III's rule was marked by significant challenges, including internal strife and external threats. His inability to effectively manage the nobility and maintain control over his territories led to his eventual downfall. After being deposed, he was captured by Herbert II, Count of Vermandois, which ultimately resulted in his death in captivity at the age of 50.
