In 2014, the Esterbrook name returned to the writing-instrument market under Harpen Brand Holdings LLC, reviving a brand whose origins reached back to Richard Esterbrook's 19th-century American steel-pen business. This was a revival of the historic brand, rather than a continuation of the original Esterbrook corporate entity, which had ceased operating independently decades earlier.
Harpen's revival brought new Esterbrook-branded writing instruments to market and represented the first substantial modern effort to re-establish the name as an active pen brand. The products were developed for a contemporary market while drawing on Esterbrook's long association with American writing instruments and interchangeable nibs.
The 2014 date is independently confirmed by the subsequent owner, Kenro Industries. When Kenro announced its acquisition of Esterbrook in 2018, it stated that the brand had been revived in 2014 by Harpen Brand Holdings. The 2014 revival therefore began a distinct modern chapter in Esterbrook's history, separate from the original manufacturing company.
