On 12 March 1866, Richard Esterbrook Sr. reorganized R. Esterbrook & Co., bringing the steel-pen business under direct Esterbrook family control. The existing partnership of Richard Esterbrook Sr., Joel Cadbury Jr. and James Bromsgrove was dissolved by mutual consent, ending the arrangement under which the company had operated during its first years. Contemporary notices stated that the partnership had conducted the manufacture and sale of steel pens in Camden, Philadelphia and New York. ©The Esterbrook Project Richard Sr. then formed a new partnership with his son, Richard Esterbrook Jr., retaining the R. Esterbrook & Co. name. The reorganization formalized the father-and-son partnership at a time when the business had developed manufacturing operations in Camden and commercial operations serving Philadelphia and New York. A Philadelphia directory from the previous year confirms Cadbury and Bromsgrove alongside Richard Sr. as the firm's partners, supporting the change documented in the March 1866 dissolution notice.
