Sale of Waterhead Hotel by English Lakes

In May 2021, we sold the Waterhead Hotel at Ambleside to The Inn Collection Group in an off-market transaction for an undisclosed sum. The sale brought to a close 46 years of ownership by English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, following our acquisition of the hotel on 1 July 1975. Situated at Waterhead on the northern shore of Windermere, the hotel had been part of our Lake District portfolio for more than four decades. The property had not been formally placed on the market. We agreed to sell after being approached by The Inn Collection Group, with Colliers coordinating the negotiations on our behalf. At the time, Managing Director Simon Berry explained that the sale would allow us to concentrate investment on properties with greater scope for physical expansion and the development of spa facilities. While it was difficult to see a long-standing property leave the portfolio, we believed its new owner was well suited to continue operating and developing the Waterhead. The Inn Collection Group subsequently reopened the property as The Waterhead Inn on 17 May 2021, adding it to its growing Lake District estate.
