In 2003, Low Wood Hotel was named Large Hotel of the Year in the Cumbria for Excellence Awards, organised by the Cumbria Tourist Board. The award recognised the hotel within Cumbria's tourism and hospitality sector and is recorded in both our company history and our history of Low Wood Bay.
The recognition followed a sustained period of investment in Low Wood. In October 2001, the hotel had achieved four-star status from both the AA and RAC after approximately £8 million had been invested in improvements and redevelopment over the preceding decade. The 2003 award therefore came at a time when we had been substantially upgrading the accommodation and facilities at our Windermere property.
Low Wood went on to receive further regional tourism recognition in subsequent years, but the 2003 Cumbria for Excellence award represented a distinct acknowledgement of the hotel at county level.
