English Lakes properties achieve Gold certification

In 2014, all five of our properties achieved Gold status through the Green Tourism Business Scheme. The accreditation covered our hotels in Cumbria and Lancashire and followed several years of work to improve environmental practices across the group. Our company history records that each of the five properties received Gold certification for excellence in the Green Tourism Business Awards that year. The assessment considered the environmental performance of the hotels and the measures being taken to support more sustainable tourism. At the time, we highlighted the involvement of our teams, guests, suppliers and contractors in reducing environmental impacts and maintaining cleaner and more responsible working practices. The achievement built on our earlier participation in the scheme; in 2011, English Lakes had become the first hotel group to obtain Green Tourism Business awards throughout Cumbria. Achieving Gold across the full five-property portfolio gave us a consistent environmental standard across both our Lake District and Lancashire operations and provided external recognition of the sustainability work being undertaken throughout the business.
