In 2007, we purchased 72 acres of woodland adjoining The Wild Boar near Windermere, giving the property its own private woods for guests to enjoy. Our company history records the acquisition among the key developments of that year. The woodland, set in the Gilpin Valley, substantially extended the outdoor space associated with the hotel. Over time, we developed walking trails and wildlife areas within the woods, while the estate provided a setting for organised outdoor experiences including falconry and archery. The woodland also contains a tarn and supports wildlife including deer and a range of birdlife. The purchase gave The Wild Boar a distinctive outdoor element alongside its accommodation and dining, allowing guests to explore the surrounding landscape without leaving the estate. The 72 acres remain an important part of what is now known as Wild Boar Estate.
