In 1978, Frank Poynter’s son Martin joined Arden Dies, aged 21, after completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His arrival followed the death of his uncle and company co-founder Philip Poynter and brought the second generation of the Poynter family into the business.
Martin joined at an important point in Arden’s adoption of new production technology. Having specialised in CNC during his university studies, he brought engineering knowledge that was particularly relevant to operating and developing the company’s first laser equipment. His production-engineering background subsequently contributed to Arden’s increasing use of automation and computer-controlled manufacturing.
