By February 1965, the die-making operation we had started in the Poynter family cellar in Bredbury had already outgrown its original workspace. The cellar measured only around 10 feet square, and growing demand meant a larger, dedicated workshop was needed.
We moved to our first factory premises in Marple, Stockport, where Arden Dies was formally established. Contemporary company histories identify this move as taking place four months after work began in the cellar. The premises have subsequently been described as being on Cross Lane, although the precise street address is not consistently given in the available company histories. The move provided the space needed to develop the business beyond its small home-based beginnings.
