Eurocopter Group was officially established through the merger of the helicopter divisions of France’s Aérospatiale and Germany’s Messerschmitt Bölkow Blohm, creating a single Franco German helicopter manufacturer under the Airbus industrial framework. The new company combined the helicopter activities of Aérospatiale, based in France, and Messerschmitt Bölkow Blohm, commonly known as MBB, based in Germany. Both companies had previously collaborated on several rotorcraft programs, including the BO105 and the Tiger attack helicopter project. The merger brought together design, production, and support operations across multiple sites in France and Germany, consolidating European helicopter manufacturing capabilities into one organization. Eurocopter was created as a subsidiary of the European aerospace group that would later become Airbus Group. The formation occurred during a broader restructuring of the European aerospace industry in the early 1990s, aimed at increasing competitiveness in global markets. At the time of its creation, Eurocopter became one of the largest helicopter manufacturers in the world, with a product range covering light, medium, and military helicopters. Existing models included the AS350 Ecureuil, the BO105, and the Super Puma family. In January 2014, Eurocopter was rebranded as Airbus Helicopters as part of a group wide name change aligning all divisions under the Airbus brand. The 01/01/1992 merger marked the formal integration of French and German helicopter manufacturing operations, establishing a unified European rotorcraft company with joint governance and shared industrial assets. #Eurocopter #AirbusHelicopters #AviationIndustry #France #Germany
