Syrian Arab Army accused Hezbollah of firing several artillery shells from Lebanese territory toward Syrian military positions near the border town of Serghaya, located west of Damascus. The allegation was reported by Syria’s state news agency SANA, citing statements from the Operations Authority of the Syrian Arab Army.
According to the Syrian military statement, multiple artillery shells landed near positions held by Syrian forces around Serghaya, a town situated close to the Syrian-Lebanese border. The area is strategically positioned along mountain routes connecting Lebanon’s Beqaa region with the Damascus countryside and has historically been used as a transit corridor during conflicts involving armed groups operating across the border.
The Syrian Arab Army’s Operations Authority attributed the shelling to what it described as “Lebanese Hezbollah militia” firing from Lebanese territory. Syrian officials said the incident occurred amid increased military activity along the border area. They reported observing Hezbollah reinforcements arriving at several locations along the Syrian-Lebanese frontier in the days surrounding the incident.
Initial reports from Syrian authorities indicated that the shells landed near military positions without causing immediate casualties or significant material damage. Syrian military units in the area reportedly remained on alert following the incident as monitoring continued along the border.
The accusation came during a period of heightened regional tensions in early March 2026, as hostilities involving Israel, Iran, and allied groups expanded across several parts of the Middle East. Military movements and cross-border incidents were reported in multiple locations during the same period, particularly in areas where Iranian-aligned groups maintain positions near international borders.
