Goldstar Co., Ltd. is established

On October 1, 1958, GoldStar Co., Ltd. was officially established by South Korean entrepreneur Koo In-hwoi, marking a historic milestone in the development of South Korea's electronics industry and the expansion of the business that would eventually become LG Group. Founded as South Korea's first electronics manufacturing company, GoldStar represented a major diversification from the chemical and consumer goods operations of Lucky Chemical, which Koo had established in 1947. The new company was created to develop and manufacture electrical and electronic products domestically, reducing dependence on imported technologies and supporting South Korea's growing industrial capabilities. Its establishment reflected Koo In-hwoi's vision of building a technologically advanced manufacturing enterprise capable of improving everyday life through locally produced electronic products. The establishment of GoldStar laid the foundation for LG Electronics, which would eventually become one of the world's leading consumer electronics and home appliance manufacturers. In November 1959, GoldStar introduced the A-501, South Korea's first domestically manufactured radio, marking its first major technological achievement. The company subsequently expanded into household appliances, producing South Korea's first domestically manufactured refrigerator in 1965 and black-and-white television in 1966. These innovations helped accelerate the development of the country's electronics industry and established GoldStar as a pioneering national manufacturer. In 1995, the GoldStar name was replaced by LG Electronics, reflecting the company's evolution into an internationally recognized technology brand. GoldStar's founding remains one of the most significant events in LG Group's corporate history and a defining moment in South Korea's industrial modernization.
