Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart concluded his stay in Munich following the successful staging of his opera La finta giardiniera. Mozart had traveled from Salzburg to Munich late in 1774 after receiving a commission from the Bavarian court. The opera premiered on 13/01/1775 at the Salvatortheater in Munich during the carnival season. Mozart supervised rehearsals and performances, working closely with singers and orchestra. Contemporary accounts indicate that the opera was received favorably and was repeated several times during the run.
Mozart remained in Munich for additional performances through February and into early March 1775. During this period he continued refining the work and maintaining contact with court musicians. Despite the positive reception, he did not secure a permanent position in Munich. With the carnival season ending, Mozart prepared to return to Salzburg, where he was still employed under Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo. The journey back marked the end of his Munich engagement.
After returning to Salzburg in March 1775, Mozart resumed his duties as Konzertmeister. Within months he composed the series of violin concertos written later that year. The conclusion of the Munich trip therefore represented a transition from operatic work at an external court back to regular service in Salzburg.
