In 2003, we introduced Change for Children, an onboard fundraising initiative that encouraged Virgin Atlantic passengers to donate their spare change and unused foreign currency to charitable causes. Through collections organised by our cabin crew, passengers could contribute small amounts of money during their flights, turning leftover travel currency into support for children and young people in need. The initiative provided a straightforward way for our customers and crew to participate in charitable giving. Donations supported projects focused on children's health, welfare and education, both in the UK and internationally. Change for Children also became an important fundraising channel for the Virgin Atlantic Foundation, which was established in 2003 to support charitable work benefiting children and young people. The campaign became an established part of our onboard community activities. By 2016, passenger contributions had raised more than £6.4 million, helping to fund charitable programmes and emergency relief appeals. Its introduction demonstrated how everyday passenger participation could contribute to practical support for communities beyond our flight network.
