On 24 June 2013, Delta Air Lines completed its acquisition of Singapore Airlines' 49% ownership stake in Virgin Atlantic for US$360 million, establishing a new strategic relationship between our two airlines. Virgin Group retained its 51% controlling interest, preserving Virgin Atlantic's identity and operational independence while introducing Delta as a significant shareholder. The investment brought together our established transatlantic network and Delta's extensive operations across North America. The partnership was designed to improve connections between the United Kingdom and the United States, particularly through London Heathrow, where access to airport slots was an important consideration. By combining our complementary networks, we aimed to offer passengers more travel options and strengthen our ability to compete on transatlantic routes. The completed acquisition also supported plans for a joint venture, allowing the airlines to coordinate schedules, pricing and commercial activities on eligible transatlantic services, subject to regulatory approval. The investment marked the beginning of a closer commercial relationship with Delta, with the joint venture subsequently receiving antitrust immunity from the US Department of Transportation in September 2013.
