Expo 2020 Dubai was held in the United Arab Emirates from 01/10/2021 to 31/03/2022, bringing the World Expo to Dubai as the first edition staged in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region. The event was hosted under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” and welcomed 24,102,967 visits across 182 days, according to the Bureau International des Expositions. The Expo was originally planned for 2020, but the UAE requested a date change after participating countries raised concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. The BIE formally approved the new dates of 01/10/2021 to 31/03/2022, while organizers kept the name “Expo 2020 Dubai” for branding and continuity. The 438-hectare site featured more than 200 participants, including countries, organizations, businesses, and educational institutions. Its program centered on the sub-themes of Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability, with pavilions and events designed around international cooperation, technology, culture, and future-focused development. Why This Moment Matters: Expo 2020 Dubai gave the UAE the first World Expo hosted by an Arab nation and brought millions of visitors to Dubai during the global recovery period after the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its site later continued as Expo City Dubai, extending part of the event’s infrastructure beyond the closing date. #UAE #Dubai #WorldExpo #Expo2020Dubai #MEASA
