Taiwan People's News was co-founded by the Taiwan Cultural Association (TCA) and published in Tokyo, with distribution to Taiwan. The publication aimed to provide a voice for the Taiwanese people but faced significant challenges, including censorship from authorities. As a result, seven or eight issues of the newspaper were banned, limiting its reach and impact. In the same context, a crackdown on political dissent occurred, leading to the arrest of 99 members of the Alliance, a group advocating for Taiwanese rights. Among those arrested, 18 were brought to trial, resulting in 13 convictions. Chiang Wei-shui, a prominent figure in the movement, faced repeated imprisonment, totaling more than ten times, highlighting the repressive environment for political activism in Taiwan during this period. These events underscored the struggle for political representation and freedom of expression in Taiwan, reflecting broader tensions between local aspirations and colonial governance.
