Macrinus, who rose to power as Roman Emperor, faced significant challenges during his brief reign. His authority was undermined by a rebellion from eastern troops who were drawn to the young Elagabalus, a rival claimant to the throne. In an attempt to quell the unrest, Macrinus mobilized his loyal Praetorian Guard and engaged Elagabalus's forces near Antioch. The battle was intense, but ultimately, Macrinus's troops were defeated. Following this loss, he fled to Chalcedon in a bid to regroup and maintain his position. However, his efforts were in vain as he was betrayed by those he trusted. The betrayal led to his capture and subsequent execution, marking the end of his reign which lasted only 14 months. Meanwhile, his son, Diadumenian, attempted to escape to Parthia but was also captured and killed, further solidifying the downfall of Macrinus's lineage.
