In June 2003, Prince Harry completed his studies at Eton College, one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious independent schools. After finishing his final examinations, he graduated with two A Level qualifications, earning a B grade in Art and a D grade in Geography. Prince Harry had attended Eton College since 1998 alongside his older brother, Prince William. During his years at the school, he combined academic studies with strong interests in sport, outdoor activities, and military related pursuits. His education attracted considerable public attention because of his position within the British royal family as the younger son of King Charles III, then Prince of Wales, and the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Following graduation in June 2003, Prince Harry chose not to attend university. Instead, he began a gap year that included travel, work experience, and humanitarian activities abroad. One part of the year was spent in Australia, where he worked on a cattle station in the remote Northern Territory. The experience exposed him to rural life and physically demanding outdoor work far removed from royal duties and media attention in Britain. Prince Harry also traveled to Lesotho in southern Africa, where he worked with orphaned and vulnerable children affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS. The visit had a lasting impact on him and helped shape his future charitable interests. His experiences in Lesotho later contributed directly to the creation of Sentebale in 2006, the charity he co founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to support children and young people facing hardship in the region. The gap year represented an important transitional period before Prince Harry entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2005 to begin officer training with the British Army. His later military service and humanitarian work in Africa became two of the defining elements of his public identity during the following decades. Why This Moment Matters Prince Harry’s post Eton gap year played a major role in shaping both his military ambitions and long term humanitarian interests. His experiences in Lesotho especially became the foundation for Sentebale, one of the most important charitable projects of his early adult life.
