Since the year 2000, Peruvian emigration has experienced significant growth, with over 10% of the population now residing abroad. From 1990 to 2011, the official count of Peruvian emigrants reached 2,444,634. The primary destinations for these emigrants included the United States, Spain, Argentina, Italy, Chile, Japan, and Venezuela. Notably, the United States accounted for approximately 31.5% of the total emigration during this period. The majority of those who emigrated were engaged in labor migration, with 75% of emigrants falling within the age range of 19 to 49 years. Interestingly, there is a slight predominance of women among the emigrant population. This trend reflects broader socio-economic factors driving Peruvians to seek better opportunities abroad, contributing to a dynamic and diverse diaspora. Understanding these migration patterns is crucial for policymakers and organizations working to support both emigrants and their families back home.
