The Taungoo Dynasty emerged as a dominant force in Upper Burma during a period marked by the fragmentation of power among various states. The Confederation of Shan States, which had previously allied with the Prome Kingdom, managed to capture Ava but faced internal conflicts that weakened its authority. By the time the Taungoo forces turned their attention to the Shan States, the Confederation was unable to mount a unified defense against the advancing Taungoo armies. The conquest of Ava by Taungoo in 1555 marked a pivotal moment in their campaign, as it allowed them to establish a foothold in the region. By 1563, Taungoo had successfully completed the conquest of all the Shan States, consolidating its power and expanding its influence significantly across Upper Burma. This expansion not only altered the political landscape but also set the stage for the Taungoo Dynasty to become one of the most powerful entities in Southeast Asia, impacting trade, culture, and governance in the region.
