In the mid-1970s, a conspiracy emerged within the military ranks of Myanmar aimed at assassinating the then leader Ne Win and his associate San Yu. The plot was orchestrated by Captain Ohn Kyaw Myint, a young staff officer, who collaborated with several fellow officers. This conspiracy was rooted in the discontent among certain military factions regarding Ne Win's leadership and policies, which had led to significant political and economic turmoil in the country. The military regime, under Ne Win, had been characterized by strict control and suppression of dissent, which likely fueled the motivations behind the assassination attempt.
The conspiracy was ultimately uncovered before it could be executed. Following the discovery, Captain Ohn Kyaw Myint was tried for his involvement in the plot. The military court found him guilty, and he was subsequently executed by hanging. This incident highlighted the internal divisions within the military and the extent of dissatisfaction with Ne Win's rule, which would continue to shape Myanmar's political landscape in the years to come.
