On 30/01/2007, Microsoft released Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office system to consumers worldwide, following their earlier availability to business customers on 30/11/2006. The launch made the software available in more than 70 countries and 19 languages through over 39,000 retail stores and online distribution via Windows Marketplace. Microsoft positioned the dual release as one of its largest coordinated product launches.
Windows Vista introduced a redesigned user interface known as Windows Aero, featuring translucent window effects, updated icons, and enhanced desktop navigation. The operating system also added security features such as User Account Control, improved built-in search capabilities, and updates to networking and multimedia support. Consumer editions included Home Basic, Home Premium, and Ultimate, offering different feature sets for various users.
Launch events were held in New York with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates and CEO Steve Ballmer presenting the new products. Microsoft highlighted integration between Windows Vista and Office 2007, which introduced the Ribbon interface and updated collaboration tools. The January 2007 release marked a major update to Microsoft’s desktop software lineup.
