On 07/10/2021, Microsoft announced its acquisition of Ally.io, a software company specializing in Objectives and Key Results technology used to align organizational goals and performance tracking. Microsoft said Ally.io would be integrated into Microsoft Viva, its employee experience platform within Microsoft 365, to help organizations connect strategic priorities with day-to-day work. The acquisition expanded Microsoft’s workplace productivity offerings focused on employee engagement, performance visibility, and goal management. Ally.io’s technology enabled teams to define objectives, track measurable key results, and link progress to broader company initiatives. Microsoft stated that incorporating Ally.io into Viva would allow leaders and employees to view goals alongside collaboration tools such as Teams and other Microsoft 365 applications. The integration was designed to provide dashboards, automated tracking, and alignment features across departments and management levels. The company was founded by Vetri Vellore, a former Microsoft executive who spent approximately 14 years at the company before launching Ally.io. At the time of the acquisition, Ally.io reported supporting more than 1,000 customers across over 80 countries. Financial terms of the transaction were not publicly disclosed, though the company had been valued at around $354 million following a $50 million Series C funding round earlier in 2021. Microsoft confirmed that Ally.io’s capabilities would become a dedicated module within Microsoft Viva following the acquisition announcement.
