On January 27, the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was formally signed, concluding nearly 20 years of negotiations between India and the European Union. The agreement marked one of the most comprehensive trade pacts entered into by both sides, aiming to significantly deepen economic integration between two of the world’s largest markets. The FTA provides for the elimination or reduction of tariffs on a wide range of goods and services, covering sectors such as manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, textiles, agriculture, digital services, and financial services. In addition to tariff liberalization, the agreement includes provisions on investment protection, intellectual property rights, government procurement, and regulatory cooperation. Combined, India and the EU represent a market of over 1.9 billion people and account for a substantial share of global trade and GDP, giving the agreement broad international economic significance. The signing of the agreement reshaped trade relations between the two regions by lowering barriers, improving market access, and establishing clearer rules for cross-border commerce. It also reflected a strategic shift toward diversified trade partnerships amid evolving global supply chains and geopolitical dynamics. #IndiaEU #FreeTradeAgreement #GlobalTrade #EconomicPartnership #InternationalRelations
