Union Street Café officially opened on 16/09/2013 in Southwark, London, as part of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant portfolio. The venue was located in Harling House on Great Suffolk Street, a converted industrial loading bay near Borough Market. The project had initially been publicized as a joint venture involving David Beckham, but he withdrew his financial backing and formal involvement shortly before the launch, leaving the restaurant to open under the Gordon Ramsay Group. The restaurant focused on seasonal Mediterranean and Italian inspired cuisine, with a frequently changing menu led by head chef Davide Degiovanni. Dishes emphasized fresh ingredients and simple preparations, reflecting a casual dining concept compared with Ramsay’s fine dining establishments. The kitchen operated with daily adjustments to the menu depending on ingredient availability and seasonal produce. The interior was designed by Russell Sage Studio with an urban warehouse aesthetic. The space incorporated exposed concrete, steel features, leather seating, and open kitchen elements, aligning with the building’s industrial origins. Prior to opening, the restaurant generated significant public interest, reportedly receiving more than 10,000 booking requests before service began. The September 2013 launch added another London location to Ramsay’s growing restaurant group.
