Google introduced Google Lens in 2017 as a visual search tool that allowed users to analyze and interact with the world through their smartphone cameras. The feature was first announced at Google I/O in May 2017 and initially rolled out within Google Photos and Google Assistant later that year. It enabled users to point their camera at objects, text, landmarks, or products and receive contextual information directly on their device. Google Lens used image recognition and machine learning technologies to identify objects and provide relevant results. Early capabilities included recognizing landmarks, scanning and copying text, identifying plants and animals, and retrieving product information. By integrating Lens into existing Google services, the company extended its search functionality beyond text and voice inputs into real-world visual queries. Following its initial release, Google Lens expanded to more devices and platforms, including standalone availability on Android and integration into the Google app and Chrome. The tool continued to evolve with improved accuracy and additional features, such as real-time translation and homework assistance, reflecting Google’s broader focus on artificial intelligence and computer vision. #GoogleLens #VisualSearch #AI #GoogleHistory #MachineLearning
