Google introduced Google My Business in June 2014, creating a unified platform for businesses to manage their online presence across Google Search and Google Maps. The service combined several existing tools, including Google Places for Business and Google+ Local, into a single interface that allowed business owners to update information such as location, contact details, operating hours, and photos.
The platform enabled businesses to appear more prominently in local search results, especially when users searched for nearby services or locations. Through Google My Business, companies could also interact with customers by responding to reviews, posting updates, and sharing images. This integration made it easier for users to find accurate and up-to-date information about businesses directly within Google’s ecosystem.
Google My Business became a key component of local search functionality, supporting small and large businesses in maintaining visibility online. Over time, additional features were added, including insights on customer interactions and tools for managing multiple locations. In 2021, Google began transitioning the platform toward a more integrated experience within Search and Maps, eventually rebranding it as Google Business Profile.
