On 31 December 1976, ownership of the ESTERBROOK trademark in Canada changed to Faber-Castell Canada Ltd. The Canadian Intellectual Property Office record for the historic ESTERBROOK word mark, application no. 0178023 and registration no. UCA14424, records Faber-Castell Canada Ltd. as the new owner effective on that date. The change in title was formally registered on 10 May 1977. ISED Canada The Canadian registration dated back to 1940 and originally named The Esterbrook Steel Pen Manufacturing Company of Camden, New Jersey, as its registered owner. It covered writing instruments and related products including pens, fountain pens, penholders, pencils, inkwells and erasers. The 1976 ownership change therefore shows how the Esterbrook name continued as intellectual property after the original manufacturing business had ceased operating. Canadian records for other writing-instrument trademarks from the same portfolio also show ownership passing to Faber-Castell Canada Ltd. on the same effective date
