On 17 September 2025, our Executive Chairman, Simon Berry, received the national Family Business Lifetime Achievement Award from Family Business United. The award was presented at a gala event in London during the National Family Business Day celebrations and recognised Simon's 40-year career with English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues.
Simon joined the family business in 1985, initially working in the accounts department after earlier hospitality experience as a chef and in management roles at several leading London hotels. He later became Marketing Director and was closely involved in projects including the development of Lancaster House Hotel and the conference and leisure facilities at Low Wood. He became Managing Director in 1998 and oversaw subsequent investment across the group, including the £16 million redevelopment of Low Wood Bay.
In 2022, Simon handed the Managing Director role to his son Ben and became Executive Chairman, continuing the family's involvement in the leadership of the business. The 2025 award recognised his contribution to English Lakes and to the wider family-business and hospitality sectors over four decades.
