In January 2017, we temporarily closed Low Wood Bay on the shores of Windermere to begin a major redevelopment of the property. The work formed part of a £16 million investment programme designed to transform the established hotel into a resort, with the first phase scheduled for completion in April 2017. Our company history records the closure in January and the subsequent reopening in April as the Lake District’s first resort. The initial plans included the refurbishment of all 111 existing bedrooms, a new restaurant and substantial new leisure and spa facilities. Plans for the spa included an outdoor heated infinity pool, sauna, steam room and hot tubs overlooking Windermere and the surrounding fells. A later phase was planned to add further accommodation and dedicated club facilities. Closing the hotel allowed this first stage of construction and refurbishment to take place before guests returned in April. Development continued after the reopening, with subsequent additions including a new marina, Blue Smoke on the Bay, The Spa and the Winander Club.
