In April 2017, we reopened Low Wood Bay following the first phase of a major redevelopment programme. The hotel had closed in January while extensive work was carried out, and the reopening introduced newly refurbished bedrooms as the first stage of a wider £16 million investment in the property. Our company history records this as the point at which Low Wood Bay reopened as the Lake District's first resort. The redevelopment was planned in several phases rather than as a single reopening. Initial plans included refurbishment of all 111 existing bedrooms, a new restaurant and expanded leisure and spa facilities. Guests were staying in the newly refurbished rooms by April, while construction continued elsewhere around the property. The April reopening therefore represented the beginning of Low Wood Bay's transition from a traditional lakeside hotel into Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa. Further elements followed as the redevelopment progressed, including a new marina, Blue Smoke on the Bay and, subsequently, extensive indoor and outdoor spa facilities.
