In 2008, we hosted the first Great North Swim at Low Wood Bay on Windermere. More than 2,000 open-water swimmers took part in the inaugural event, bringing a large-scale organised swimming event to the waters immediately alongside the hotel and our watersports facilities. Our company history records the first Great North Swim as one of the key events at Low Wood Bay that year. The inaugural swim also attracted leading competitors. Olympic medallist Cassie Patten won the first Great North Swim, an achievement we have subsequently recalled in our coverage of open-water swimming at Low Wood Bay. The event went on to become an established fixture on Windermere and grew considerably in subsequent years. Although the Great North Swim is now staged at Brockhole on Windermere, its beginnings at Low Wood Bay remain an important part of our long association with watersports and outdoor activity on the lake.
