On 8 August 1959, we purchased The Wild Boar Hotel, expanding the family hotel business just a year after Norman and Kenneth Buckley acquired Low Wood. The purchase established The Wild Boar as one of the earliest properties in the portfolio that would later become English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues. Set in the countryside between Kendal and Bowness-on-Windermere, The Wild Boar offered a contrasting setting to Low Wood's position on the Windermere shoreline. English Lakes The hotel became a long-standing part of the family business and was considerably enlarged alongside Low Wood in 1969. The property has continued to evolve through subsequent investment and is now known as Wild Boar Estate. Its rural character remains central to the guest experience, complemented today by private woodland and outdoor activities.
