In August 1983, we created the Low Wood Watersports Centre on the shores of Windermere, building on Low Wood's long association with the lake. The centre was formally opened on 9 January 1984 by the Minister for Sport, Neil Macfarlane MP. The operation began on a relatively modest scale, providing boat hire from Low Wood's jetty for visitors wanting to explore Windermere. Over time, it developed into a dedicated centre offering a much broader range of activities, equipment hire and instruction. English Lakes This gave guests and other visitors a more direct way to enjoy Low Wood's lakeside setting and established watersports as a lasting part of the property's leisure offering. The centre has continued to develop with changing interests in outdoor recreation. It now offers activities including sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding and operates as a recognised Royal Yachting Association training centre.
