On October 1, 1958, Elvis Presley was assigned to the 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 32d Armor, 3d Armored Division, stationed at Ray Barracks in West Germany. During his service, he held the position of armor intelligence specialist. His military career saw him promoted to private first class on November 27, 1958, and later to specialist fourth class on June 1, 1959. Despite his fame, Presley was determined to be seen as an ordinary soldier and demonstrated his generosity by donating his Army pay to charity, purchasing television sets for the base, and providing extra fatigues for his fellow soldiers. He was promoted to sergeant on February 11, 1960. During his time in the Army, Presley developed an interest in karate, studying under Jürgen Seydel, which he later incorporated into his live performances. Additionally, he was introduced to amphetamines, which he believed enhanced his energy and strength. Fellow soldiers have attested to his desire to fit in and his kind-hearted nature, making his military service a significant chapter in his life. #mooflife #mof #MomentOfLife #ElvisPresley #MilitaryService #1stMediumTankBattalion #WestGermany #Karate
