Elvis Presley was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on March 5, 1960, with the rank of sergeant. This marked the official conclusion of his two-year military service, during which he had been stationed in Friedberg, West Germany, as part of the 3rd Armored Division.
His military tenure, from March 1958 to March 1960, was a defining period in his life. Despite concerns that his absence from the music scene might weaken his career, his return to civilian life was met with immense fanfare. Just days before his discharge, on March 2, 1960, he had already arrived in the United States, landing at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey.
Shortly after leaving the Army, Elvis resumed his music and film career with great success. His first post-service single, "Stuck on You", topped the charts, and he soon appeared on the Frank Sinatra Timex Show, proving that he remained a dominant force in entertainment.
Elvis' military service not only enhanced his public image—demonstrating his discipline and patriotism—but also contributed to his evolution as an artist, setting the stage for his 1960s resurgence.
