Cyprus Presidency of the EU in 2012

Cyprus held the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first time in the second half of 2012, from July 1 to December 31. As part of this significant milestone, Cyprus aimed to promote a "Better Europe" under the slogan “Towards a Better Europe,” focusing on issues such as sustainable economic growth, social cohesion, and the well-being of European citizens. The presidency took place during a period of economic challenges in Europe, including the Eurozone crisis. Despite its size, Cyprus sought to facilitate unity and cooperation among EU member states, emphasizing solutions to the economic crisis, promoting innovation, and improving the EU's global presence.
