Cristiano Ronaldo became a playable character in SNK’s fighting game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, released on 24/04/2025, marking the first time in the franchise’s history that guest characters not originally created by SNK joined the main roster. The game, developed by KOF Studio and published by SNK , represented the first completely new mainline Fatal Fury title in more than 25 years following Garou: Mark of the Wolves in 1999. Ronaldo’s inclusion attracted widespread attention across both gaming and sports media due to the unusual crossover between professional football and traditional fighting game culture. In the game, Ronaldo’s fighting style is officially described as a blend of football and martial arts. His move set incorporates stylized football techniques, including attacks using a glowing blue football that functions as an energy projectile during combat. Several of his special moves are inspired by football actions such as headers, kicks, and sliding tackles, adapted into arcade-style fighting mechanics. After victories, the character performs Ronaldo’s internationally recognized “Siuuu” celebration, further connecting the in-game portrayal to his public persona. The English-language voice for Ronaldo was provided by Juan Felipe Sierra, while Japanese voice acting was performed by Masaaki Mizunaka. At launch, Ronaldo was included in the game’s base roster alongside returning Fatal Fury fighters and other guest characters. Although some story-related modes initially excluded him, SNK later expanded his content through a dedicated update released on 15/07/2025. The update added Ronaldo-specific material to Arcade Mode and the single-player RPG-inspired “Episodes of South Town” mode, often abbreviated as EOST. Within the game’s fictional story, Ronaldo visits the series’ setting of South Town during his football off-season in order to improve his “new football skills.” The update also introduced additional music and narrative content tied to the character. Promotional material connected Ronaldo’s appearance to the broader global marketing strategy surrounding City of the Wolves, which was heavily promoted during 2025 through sports events, online campaigns, and crossover media appearances. Many gaming commentators linked the collaboration to Saudi Arabia’s growing investment in international entertainment and esports. SNK has been owned since 2022 by the MiSK Foundation, an organization associated with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Ronaldo himself has played for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr since 2023, making the partnership commercially and culturally notable. The crossover generated mixed reactions within the fighting game community, with some fans viewing it as an inventive expansion of the franchise while others questioned the inclusion of real-world celebrities in the traditionally fictional Fatal Fury universe. Despite the debate, Ronaldo’s appearance became one of the most discussed elements of the game’s release period and reflected the increasingly global nature of modern gaming collaborations involving athletes, musicians, and entertainment brands. #CristianoRonaldo #FatalFury #CityOfTheWolves #SNK #GamingHistory #FightingGames #CR7
