On 27/02/2026, former U.S. President Bill Clinton testified before the United States House Committee on Oversight and Accountability in a closed-door deposition concerning his past relationship with financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The session took place at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center in New York. In an opening statement released during the proceedings, Clinton said, “I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong.” Clinton told lawmakers he had “no idea” about Epstein’s criminal conduct during the period of their association and stated that he never witnessed any signs of abuse. He described the relationship as a “brief acquaintance” that ended years before Epstein’s first guilty plea in 2008. Addressing documented flights on Epstein’s private aircraft, Clinton acknowledged traveling on the plane but maintained that he would have reported Epstein had he known of any wrongdoing, referencing his own background growing up in an abusive household. The former president also criticized the Republican-led committee for compelling Hillary Clinton to testify on 26/02/2026, stating that she had “nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein.” The inquiry is being led by Committee Chairman James Comer following the release earlier in February of millions of Department of Justice files related to Epstein’s case. Republican members have focused on documented ties between Clinton and Epstein, including flight logs and photographs from the early 2000s. Democratic members of the panel have called for Donald Trump to testify under oath regarding his own past interactions with Epstein. The February 27 deposition marked the first time since 1983 that a former U.S. president was compelled to testify before a congressional committee, when former President Gerald Ford appeared before lawmakers. Epstein died in federal custody in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, and investigations into his network of associates have continued in subsequent years. The 27/02/2026 testimony added a new chapter to congressional scrutiny surrounding figures who had prior contact with Epstein.
