In 1975, founder Frank Poynter set out his view of how new technology would change die-making in an interview with the trade magazine Cutter and Creaser. At the time, dies were still commonly produced by drawing designs directly onto plywood and cutting the required slots with a jigsaw. Frank argued that the emerging laser-cutting process offered a better way forward, telling the magazine that “laser cut dies are definitely here to stay”. We subsequently became an early adopter of laser technology as it developed during the late 1970s. Industry publication Printweek records that Arden installed the UK's first Lasercomb unit, helping move production away from traditional hand-cutting methods towards laser-cut dies.
