On 21/03/2017, Apple Inc. announced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition, marking ten years of the company’s partnership with the (RED) organization. The special edition models featured a red matte aluminum finish with a white front panel and a silver Apple logo. Apple stated that a portion of proceeds from each (PRODUCT)RED purchase would contribute to the Global Fund, supporting HIV and AIDS programs including testing, counseling, and treatment services, particularly in sub Saharan Africa. Apple confirmed that orders for the (PRODUCT)RED models would begin worldwide on 24/03/2017, with availability starting later that month. The special edition was offered only in 128 GB and 256 GB storage configurations. Pricing at launch started at $749 for the iPhone 7 and $869 for the iPhone 7 Plus in the United States. Aside from the color finish, the devices retained the same specifications as the standard iPhone 7 lineup, including the A10 Fusion chip, improved camera systems, and water resistance. The release represented the first time Apple offered a flagship iPhone in a red finish. Apple had previously supported the (RED) initiative through accessories and earlier iPod models, but the March 2017 launch extended the collaboration to a mainline iPhone product. The announcement formed part of Apple’s broader partnership with (RED), which began in 2006 and involved contributions tied to select product sales.
