The Frank family moved into their hiding place, known as the Achterhuis, which was a three-story space located above the Opekta offices on the Prinsengracht. This move was necessitated by the increasing dangers faced by Jews during the Holocaust. Otto Frank, the head of the family, arranged for some of his trusted employees to assist them while they were in hiding. To create the illusion that they had left for Switzerland, the family left their apartment in disarray and Otto even left a note suggesting their departure. The family had to walk several kilometers to reach the hiding place, as Jews were prohibited from using public transport. Margot Frank cycled to the Prinsengracht with the help of Miep Gies, a close friend of the family who played a crucial role in their concealment. To further protect their location, the entrance to the Secret Annex was concealed behind a bookcase, ensuring that it remained hidden from the outside world. This strategic move was critical for their survival during a time of extreme persecution and danger for Jewish families in Europe.
