Amazon's Initial Distribution Network Launch

Amazon's launch of its distribution network marked a pivotal development in its operational capabilities. The initial setup included two fulfillment centers located in Seattle and New Castle, Delaware. This network has since expanded to include various types of distribution facilities, such as cross-dock centers, fulfillment centers, sortation centers, delivery stations, Prime Now hubs, and Prime Air hubs. Currently, Amazon operates 75 fulfillment centers and 25 sortation centers, employing over 125,000 individuals. These employees perform essential tasks that ensure the efficient movement of goods through the supply chain. Their responsibilities include unpacking and inspecting incoming goods, storing items while recording their locations, picking goods for individual shipments, sorting and packing orders, and finally, shipping the products to customers.
