Airbus delivered the final A380 to Emirates, bringing an end to the production of the world’s largest passenger airliner after 14 years in service and 251 aircraft built. The aircraft handed over was an A380-842 registered A6-EVS. The delivery took place in Hamburg, Germany, where Airbus completes cabin installation and painting for the A380 program. Emirates, based in Dubai, was the largest customer for the type, having ordered a total of 123 A380 aircraft. The airline began operating the A380 in August 2008 and used it extensively on high demand long haul routes linking Dubai with major global hubs. Airbus had announced in February 2019 that A380 production would end in 2021 following a review of the order backlog, after Emirates reduced its remaining orders and shifted part of its fleet strategy toward the A350 and A330neo. The A380 program was formally launched in December 2000, achieved its first flight on 27/04/2005, and entered commercial service with Singapore Airlines on 25/10/2007. Over its production run, 251 A380 aircraft were delivered to 14 customers worldwide. The final delivery on 16/12/2021 marked the closure of the A380 assembly line in Toulouse, France, concluding the manufacturing phase of the four engine double deck aircraft. Airbus stated that it would continue supporting the in service fleet through maintenance, upgrades, and parts supply as airlines operate the type in the years ahead. #A380 #Airbus #Emirates #AviationHistory #EndOfProduction
