Israeli military launched a broad-scale wave of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in the southern suburbs of Beirut, an area known as Dahiyeh. The strikes were carried out after Israel issued evacuation warnings to residents earlier the same day, instructing civilians to leave parts of the densely populated district ahead of planned military operations. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the overnight operation targeted Hezbollah command facilities and other military infrastructure embedded within multiple buildings in the area. The military stated that one headquarters facility and ten high-rise buildings linked to Hezbollah operations were struck, along with sites believed to be used for storing drones involved in attacks against Israel.
Dahiyeh, located in Beirut’s southern suburbs, is widely regarded as one of Hezbollah’s primary political and military strongholds. The evacuation warnings issued prior to the strikes prompted large numbers of residents to leave the district, with heavy traffic reported as civilians attempted to move to safer areas. The strikes occurred during an intensifying confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah that began earlier in the week. Hezbollah had launched rockets and artillery toward northern Israel, including attacks near the Golan Heights and Haifa, while Israel responded with airstrikes across Lebanon targeting facilities associated with the Iran-backed group.
The escalation in Lebanon unfolded within a wider regional conflict that began on 28/02/2026 after joint United States and Israeli strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran. Following the assassination, Hezbollah and other Iranian-aligned groups launched retaliatory attacks against Israeli and allied targets, contributing to a rapid expansion of hostilities across the Middle East.
