On 28/02/2026, Iran launched a series of missile and drone strikes against multiple U.S. military facilities across the Gulf region in retaliation for a large joint military operation conducted earlier the same day by the United States and Israel. The earlier campaign, referred to by the United States as Operation Epic Fury, targeted Iranian leadership and military infrastructure. Iranian authorities described their counterattack as “True Promise 4,” stating that the strikes were directed at bases hosting U.S. forces involved in the operation. Several installations across the Middle East were targeted in the Iranian attack. In Bahrain, strikes hit the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in the capital city of Manama. Reports indicated that several structures and satellite communications terminals at the facility were damaged or destroyed. The Fifth Fleet base is one of the most important U.S. naval command centers in the region and oversees maritime security operations in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean. In Kuwait, missiles struck Ali Al Salem Air Base, causing significant damage to its runway infrastructure. Additional strikes targeted Camp Arifjan, a major U.S. Army logistics hub located south of Kuwait City. The facilities support U.S. operations and troop deployments throughout the Middle East. In Qatar, Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the region and a central hub for U.S. Central Command air operations, was also hit. Initial reports indicated damage to several structures, including a medical clinic within the base complex. Additional attacks were reported in the United Arab Emirates, where Al Dhafra Air Base, which hosts U.S. Air Force assets, was targeted. Iranian missiles or drones also struck Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, a major logistics hub and frequent port of call for U.S. Navy vessels operating in the region. Beyond the Gulf states, Iranian strikes were reported against Muwaffaq al Salti Airbase in Jordan and Erbil International Airport in Iraq, both of which host U.S. military personnel and support coalition operations. The strikes occurred within hours of the initial U.S. and Israeli air campaign against Iran and represented one of the most geographically widespread retaliatory actions by Iran against U.S. military positions in the Middle East. Governments in several affected countries activated emergency measures and air defense systems following the attacks as the regional security situation continued to escalate. Location: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Iraq
