In January 1947, South Korean entrepreneur Koo In-hwoi founded Lucky Chemical Co., Ltd., marking the beginning of what would eventually become LG Group, one of South Korea's largest multinational conglomerates. Established during Korea's post-liberation economic recovery, the company initially focused on manufacturing cosmetics and introduced Lucky Cream, one of Korea's earliest domestically produced cosmetic creams. The product gained popularity for its quality and distinctive packaging, helping establish the Lucky brand in the Korean consumer market. The establishment of Lucky Chemical marked a significant milestone in South Korea's industrial development. The success of Lucky Cream provided a foundation for the company's expansion into household products, chemicals, plastics, and other industries. In 1958, Koo In-hwoi expanded into electronics through the establishment of GoldStar, laying the groundwork for the future Lucky-GoldStar conglomerate, which adopted the LG identity in 1995. The original chemical business eventually evolved into LG Chem, a major global chemical and battery-materials company. This founding moment represents the beginning of LG's transformation from a small cosmetics manufacturer into an internationally recognized industrial and technology group.
